The Epiphany Campaign has taken stock of the past carol singing fundraising campaign. Eighty-five thousand children and young people were in action and “sang” for 19.2 million euros across Austria.

This was announced by the Epiphany Campaign of the Catholic Children’s Movement (DKA) on Tuesday, reported Kathpress. The record result lies 25.5 percent over the past year (15.3 million euro) and clearly over the “before Corona results,” so the DKA.

Support for 500 aid projects in poverty-stricken regions
The relief organization uses the collection campaign, carried out every year between Christmas and Epiphany (January 6), to finance 500 aid projects in poverty-stricken regions of the world. “Every day, we hear and see about crises in the world. It gives courage to see how much children are working for a better world,” said Teresa Millesi, Federal President of the Catholic Children’s Movement, about the result. According to the results, Upper Austria leads the donation statistics, followed by the Diocese of Graz and the Archdiocese of Vienna.

Water points and schools through donations from Epiphany Action
The donations are used to finance water points in northern Kenya, which has been severely affected by climate change, and schools for shepherd children. In addition, the Epiphany Campaign repeatedly draws attention to the violation of children’s rights and the fact that children in many regions still have to do hard work. Although the international community aims to end child labour by 2025, 160 million children worldwide are still working, with fatal consequences for their physical and psychological development, DKA reported.

Together with the “Stop Child Labor!” alliance, DKA is committed to ending exploitative child labour. An important lever for this is the supply chain law currently being negotiated at the EU level. This is entering the decisive phase. DKA has launched the petition “Stop child labor: Supply Chain Law Now!” to build more pressure on decision-makers, which calls on Austrian MEPs to advocate for strong legal regulations.
